August First Friday Scranton

Artist of the Month

Jana Scott – Show Titled “Rust” a collection of metallic paintings.

My Start

I started “Jana Scott Photography” in 2008 because friends and family believed in me and more opportunities to make images were literally dropping from the sky!  The initial opportunities brought more opportunities and the joke of my first year was…I was photographing anything from babies to motorcycles to golf courses to weddings!
I began taking photographs when I was 4 years old when my parents let me have a camera that used 110 film and one use flash bulbs….I carried that camera everywhere; until my father took me to NYC to by my first Olympus SLR from the electronics district, oh what fun!
The journey from then until now has been filled with lots of adversity but also great joy. I never let go of my desire to photograph. I have spent time in the darkroom, time shooting film; in fact, my first wedding was shot in film, time running a fine art photography business for a brilliant photographer, time learning digital everything (!!!) and all the while, I have never stopped learning.

My Style

Today I shoot with digital SLR’s and process all my own images. I actually love editing the images and enhancing the feeling of each image. I have learned that my passion is to create images and not just observe moments. My style blends the best of photojournalism and creative portraiture. Sometimes I see a moment, just capture it, and later enhance it in the “lightroom” and other times when appropriate, I enhance moments with suggestions and capture the outcomes.
I am always humbled when clients chose me to capture a part of their life and I am grateful for every opportunity to do so.
Give me a call or email me and I would be happy to talk with you further about my photographic services. I am available during normal business hours and not so normal business hours.
Thanks for visiting! Please feel free to contact me at any time…I am happy to answer your questions.814.769.3557 or janakscott@gmail.com

Musical Guest

Jason Vo,  Percussive Fingerstylist.  Jason will be performing all original music inspired by such artists as Michael Heges and Thomas Leeb!

About

Jason Vo is a skilled guitarist from the NEPA area who specializes in percussive finger-picking. Having played guitar most of his life, Jason draws inspiration from many contemporary musicians including Michael Hedges and Thomas Leeb. He also prides himself on having an eclectic music palette, delving into such genres as classical, contemporary, blues, celtic. etc.

Skilled in playing other instruments, Jason spent time learning both electric and double bass, though he remains partial to the warm sounds of the acoustic guitar. He spends much of his time in improvisational guitar as well as creating original compositions. Often he can be found practicing with other fellow guitarist and improv musicians.

Originally, Jason first fell in love with the guitar after receiving the instrument as a gift. Unable to afford lessons, and armed only with a desire to play, he set about the task of learning to play on his own. The following years were spent learning from whatever music inspired him at the time, including worship, classic rock, and metal guitar pieces. Jason played in various “bands” over the next few years, dabbling in the electric bass. Eventually, he became dissatisfied with his inability to express himself fully on the instrument.

Inevitably, he returned to his original love, the acoustic guitar- one of the only instruments where he could reach bass, harmony, melody, and rhythm all at once. Fueled by inspiration from some of his favorite guitarists and a desire to create vivid aural landscapes, he tackled the instrument anew, finally able to express himself fully on the instrument.

Currently Jason is working on recording his first solo album (available here when completed!).

Jason can be reached atJasonvoshaffer@yahoo.comfor bookings or inquiries.

“We are thrilled to host this rising star’s CD release party.. Obscurely folkish, innately jazzish, all talent singer-songwriter. Sarah combines her signature voice with original, organic, guitar picking to deliver a diverse range of music that goes beyond the genre of singer songwriter.”
